☆ Personality

Ling is described on her official profile as “a lively high school girl with a straightforward and informal personality with an ahoge on her head.” She’s a rock and guitar fanatic, and collects guitars for her own personal collection. When around other members of her group, she’s fun loving and prone to teasing others.

According to her backstory presented by Shanghai Henian and the series of animated promotional shorts created for Luo Tianyi’s VOCALOID3 voicebank, Ling is the little sister of fellow VSINGER Yuezheng Longya. The two are the children of the musical instrument manufacturer and music conglomerate “Yuezheng Group”. Subsequently, they’re both very rich.

Everyone in VSINGER, including Ling herself, calls Ling “A-Ling”. Using “A-” at the beginning of a name is a term of endearment, and extends Ling’s name into two syllables— she is the only character with a one syllable name.

☆ Brief History

In 2011, a contest under the name VOCALOID CHINA PROJECT was held to determine the design of China’s first VOCALOID. Chinese VOCALOID fans could submit their own designs to be chosen by Shanghai Henian— the first place winner would become a VOCALOID while the runner ups would be their promotional companions.

A design for a girl named Caiyin Ling, drawn by Rikuhao, was one of the runner up winners of the contest. Illustrator ideolo was brought in to refine the designs of all the winners, but noticeably did not change much about Ling’s design. Her last name was changed to Yuezheng. Promotion soon began for the first place design, Luo Tianyi, with Ling featured as a supporting character.

Prior to her release as a VOCALOID, Ling was featured in many fan PVs with Tianyi, and even had original songs come out for her (with Tianyi singing them). When it came time for Ling to receive a VOCALOID voice, there was a competition where fans could enter and compete to become her voice provider with a submission of their talking voice and singing voice. QI Inory was picked as the winner. Much of Ling’s prerelease promotion was tied with promotion for Zhanyin Lorra, a potential VOCALOID3 voicebank. VOCALOID5 updates were announced for Tianyi, Yanhe, and Ling when the engine was released to the public in 2018. In 2021, the corresponding updated designs for each girl were posted on their respective Weibo accounts. Fans disliked these designs, with Ling’s being the least liked among the three for missing key character elements and having impractical accessories, such as gloves that covered her fingers (rendering guitar playing extremely difficult). All three V5 voicebanks released in 2023— the physical versions of the voicebanks are notably missing the designs and aren't in a box and CD like typical VOCALOID releases, instead opting to put their name and logo on a USB drive.

Ling is the second-most followed VSINGER character on Weibo, with over half a million followers. Of all the cast, Ling has had the second-most promotion in the current day. She recently appeared alongside Tianyi at the 2025 CCTV Network Spring Festival Gala to sing and dance with other virtual singers, and had an impressively put together livestream concert and merchandise line to celebrate her tenth anniversary. Ling and Longya are the first VOCALOID duo who are confirmed to be brother and sister.

The popular song 寄明月 / Moonlight Thoughts, best known to be performed by the C-POP girl group SING, was made by Chinese producer T2o. Aside from creating other popular Chinese VOCALOID songs, he uploaded a Ling version of Moonlight Thoughts shortly after SING's release of their version in 2017. At the 2025 CCTV Network Spring Festival Gala, Ling, alongside Tianyi, other virtual singers, and some members of SING, performed this song.
