How to make a Bilibili account

Bilibili is essentially Chinese YouTube, and where practically all of VSINGER fans go to post their own songs or listen to others’. Whether you want to create an account to follow every VSINGER member, catalogue the music you like in playlists, or upload your own original songs or covers, making a Bilibili account is the way to go.

Because international VSINGER fans are a rarity/a marvel, if you do end up posting works there in English, the comments lean very much toward the supportive side. Always remember to be respectful!

There's no English interface for Bilibili, so you'll need to rely on muscle memory and/or a screen translator to navigate the website outside of this guide, but the majority of it (such as pressing the bright pink button to upload a video) is pretty self explanatory.

How to create a Bilibili account:

Step 1. Go to https://www.bilibili.com/ (NOT bilibili.tv)

Step 2. Press any button at the top here. You’ll be prompted to sign in/create an account if you don’t already have one.

Step 3. Press the highlighted blue text on the right. This is the “create an account” button.

[You can sign up through WeChat, Weibo, or QQ by pressing any of their respective buttons. This guide will just go over this phone number method, because most overseas people will not have these accounts.]
The top part asks for your phone number. Click the drop down on the +86 part to get to “+1 美国” (+1, America). Then, press the button next to the phone number:

You’ll be sent a code via SMS. KEEP IN MIND it may take a minute or two. If you don’t receive one after two minutes, press the button and try again. You may have to solve a CAPTCHA between attempts.

When you get the code, enter it in the bottom section. Press the large rectangular blue button when you’re done.

Step 4. Your account has been created! Now to set it up with extra things.

When you first make your account, you’ll have a default profile and randomly generated name. Click the default icon in the top right bar, then the highlighted red box (Personal Center):

Step 5. Click the fourth button down on the sidebar of the Personal Center. The numbered sections here mean the following:

1. Set your display name.
2. Set your bio (what people see when they look at your bilibili channel, underneath your display name).
3. Set your gender (male, female, “confidential”).
4. Set your birthday.

Step 6. Click the fifth button down on the sidebar. This is to set your avatar.

Click the blue circle button.

Click the top button. It’ll ask you to pick a picture from your PC.

Step 7. Your account is mostly done. This step is optional, and is down to personal preference. With the way your account is now, you can only log in via SMS being sent to your phone number (or downloading the Bilibili app and scaning the log in QR code every time you want to log in on the computer). To set a password and email for your Bilibili account, click the eighth button down on the sidebar.

The top button is to set a password, the bottom button is to bind an email. You’ll be asked to send a code to your phone to verify you’re trying to do either option, and might have to complete a CAPTCHA.

Step 8. This last part is the most time consuming. In order to verify your account to be able to write comments and do other miscellaneous things, you have two options:

1. Receive an invite code from another bilibili user. At the time, no one on the moderation team for this webpage is a level 5 user (level 5 and above receive invite codes), so you’ll have to ask somewhere else for them.
2. Take the Bilibili verification quiz.

You can find the button to take the verification quiz in the Personal Center (the textbox to its right is where you can put in an invite code if you have one):

This quiz is a 100 question quiz about Chinese net etiquette, anime/manga, video games, VOCALOID, and other online topics. You’ll need 60 points to pass and become verified, and every question right is 1 point each. The first 40 questions are impossible to get wrong, as they’ll tell you the correct answer after submission and you must click said answer to proceed. After question 40, you’ll either have to guess the correct answer, or screen translate each question and try to answer them yourself.

As of writing, we’re unable to find a single page that has every question and its answers on it. However, you only need to answer 20 questions correctly from this point onward, and there are 60 left by this point in the quiz. You have a generally high probability of passing through guesswork, and an even higher probability if you use a screen translator to translate the webpage and google the answer. If you fail, you can try again in 24 hours.

Once you’ve passed, your Bilibili account is verified, and you can do basically whatever you want on it!
NOTE: Bilibili has a number of paid services, such as buying TV shows, videos, decorative banners and icons, and some IP such as VSINGER even have storefronts directly on Bilibili to order physical merchandise. In our experience, we've been blocked from purchasing videos (such as VODs for VSINGER concerts) and physical merchandise. For the former, there are workarounds (see various sections of the "Content Archive" tab), but for the latter, you may have to use a third party importing service like Superbuy.
